Former five-star wide receiver Tyron Johnson is transferring from LSU. He announced the news on his Twitter account Thursday.

The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger spoke to Johnson’s father, who confirmed his son is transferring and said he wants to play in a more “wide open offense.”

“He wanted to go to a more wide open offense,” Tyrone Johnson told Dellenger. “That was the only reason why.”

So, there you have it: Johnson is interested in wide open offenses, and those are certainly plentiful around the country. However, that’s not LSU at the moment.

Johnson’s father said his son aims to make a decision in the next week on where he’ll play next, but he can’t transfer within the conference. However, he could play JUCO ball and re-enter the SEC later in his career.

He was in all likelihood a third or fourth option for the Tigers at the receiver position in 2016.

Johnson caught nine passes in 2015 and was a former five-star prospect for the Tigers’ 2015 signing class. The New Orleans, Louisiana, native was rated as the No. 5 overall receiver and the state’s No. 1 overall prospect coming out of high school, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
