LSU is looking to make changes to its coaching staff following a serious injury to one of its on-field assistant coaches.

Coach Ed Orgeron announced in his pre-training camp press conference that defensive line coach Dennis Johnson suffered an injury to both legs in a basketball accident. The injury required surgery to repair and heal, and Johnson is currently moving in a wheelchair. He expects to coach from the press box this season.

While Johnson recovers, Orgeron said Kenechi Udeze and Christian Lacouture would help coach the position as the school looks to the NCAA for a waiver. Udeze was hired as an analyst and Lacouture, a former defensive lineman, was added to the program as a graduate assistant this offseason.

Orgeron, of course, has coached the defensive line at multiple previous coaching stops.

LSU returns plenty of talent and experience including Glen Logan, Rashard Lawrence, Breiden Fehoko and former 5-star prospect K’Lavon Chaisson returns following a knee injury against Miami last season.

LSU opens the regular season on Aug. 31 against Georgia Southern.
