In the world of recruiting, it’s never too early to get a jump on the next year’s class.

LSU recently operated under this premise — and even took it a step further.

Top 2019 prospect Kenyon Green pledged his services to LSU on Sunday afternoon. A 4-star OT out of Texas, Green is considered a top-100 player in his class:

LSU was the first school to offer Green, and it paid off handsomely. Only a sophomore, Green already possesses a physically-imposing frame (6-foot-5, 300 pounds).

There needs to be a bit of perspective here. Green made a verbal commitment. He still has 26 months until he can make the decision official. Additionally, it gives other schools plenty of time to change Green’s mind.

However, Green’s commitment speaks to Ed Orgeron’s effectiveness as a recruiter. Surely he’s selling the new direction of the program to recruits. Green is the second 2019 commitment for LSU — joining fellow top-100 member Maurice Hampton.
