ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky is a big believer in LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

On Friday, Orlovsky said on social media that he thinks Nussmeier will be in the conversation to become the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. The take was in response to a mock that has Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders in the top 3:

Nussmeier is in his first season as LSU’s starting quarterback, but is eligible to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s been very productive so far in this role as he replaces former Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels

Nussmeier has completed 64.7% of his passes for 2,222 yards and an SEC-best 18 passing touchdowns so far in 2024. In what is widely viewed as a relatively weak quarterback class, Nussmeier has the arm talent to stand out even over a more mobile option such as Ward.

Nussmeier still has a long way to go, however. He’s still only made a handful of college starts in his career, but will have a big opportunity to prove himself in the coming weeks. LSU is set to go on the road to face Texas A&M in Week 9. The Tigers will also have a likely top-25 matchup against Alabama in Week 11.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
