ESPN’s FPI is predicting the start of the college football season, and that includes Week 1 matchups across the country. In the SEC, LSU will open the season with a primetime matchup against Florida State.

The matchup between Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers and Mike Norvell’s Florida State Seminoles is a rematch of one of the most memorable games from last season. The Seminoles won, 24-23, by blocking an LSU PAT with no time remaining. It is a big game for two teams that have College Football Playoff aspirations.

Heading into the season, LSU trails only Georgia and Alabama in SEC Championship odds. The Tigers bring back a ton of key players from a team that was playing some great football at the end of the year.

As for the season opener against Florida State, ESPN’s FPI sees this as a game where the Tigers get some revenge. The Tigers are given a 65% chance to win the game and start the season 1-0.

This matchup looks to be a great one for all college football fans. Both of these teams have future NFL players on both sides of the ball and are expected to compete to win their respective conferences.

With quarterback Jayden Daniels back for LSU, he is now entering Year 2 of playing under coach Kelly. The Tigers beat Alabama last year in a thrilling game and ended the season with a 63-7 victory against Purdue in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. If the Tigers are able to get this game, then you could see LSU absolutely make a run to the Playoff.
