Former LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith signed his first NFL contract Tuesday, the team announced.
The total value of his four-year deal is $3,177,188, and the Bucs selected Beckwith with the final pick of the third round, No. 107 overall. Although he’s recovering from a torn ACL suffered last November, he is expected to be ready for training camp in July and compete for the Bucs’ strongside linebacker position.
Beckwith had a nice LSU career, but it didn’t start at linebacker. He was actually listed as a defensive end exiting high school, but he made a rather seamless transition to linebacker. He racked up an impressive 263 tackles, including 24.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks during his 44-game career.
Had Beckwith not been injured against Florida, it’s likely that his stock would have been higher in the NFL Draft. The Bucs could have gotten a complete steal in the third round, and he should have a nice NFL career.
