Chestnut did well in his first stint at Syracuse. He was named a Freshman All-American by multiple outlets in 2021, when he started all 12 games for the Orange. Chestnut recorded career-highs of 43 total tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 8 pass breakups and 3 interceptions.
In 2022, Chestnut was again a 12-game starter. He logged 40 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2 pass breakups and 1 interception for a touchdown.
Chestnut appeared to decide that he would not be spending multiple seasons at LSU early into the 2023 campaign. He last played on Sept. 23 against Arkansas. By participating in only 4 games, Chestnut can take a redshirt for 2023, giving him 2 full seasons of remaining eligibility.
Chestnut is not with LSU for Monday’s ReliaQuest Bowl game in Tampa against Wisconsin.
