The COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread across the globe, claiming thousands of lives thus far.

On Friday night, it claimed the life of a former LSU football and track star — ex-WR Orlando McDaniel. He was 59 years old.

Former LSU track coach Dennis Shaver confirmed McDaniel’s death to The Advocate:

“Orlando was a tireless worker for the youth in his area of (Dallas-Fort Worth) ,” Shaver said. “His youth North Texas Cheetahs Track Club, year after year, developed many of the great athletes competing for universities throughout the United States.”

McDaniel played at LSU from 1978 to 1981, finishing with 64 career catches for 1,184 yards and 3 touchdowns.

He played in the NFL for one year, spending the 1982 season with the Denver Broncos.
