Back before he became Texas A&M’s head coach, Jimbo Fisher made a number of stops, including one at LSU as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator under Nick Saban from 2000 to 2004 (Fisher stayed with the Tigers until 2006).

Going up against Saban’s elite defenses led to some long days for Fisher and the offense, but they occasionally got the last word.

As you can see below, former LSU FB Jacob Hester shared a great story about a time Fisher got to call out an LSU defender following a long day in the 2-minute drill:

“Jimbo loves 2-minute (drill),” Hester said. “All offensive coordinators love 2-minute. One day, LaRon Landry, of course a very talented safety, first-round pick, one of the all-time greats, was letting Jimbo have it. Just talking at Jimbo because we (the offense) couldn’t get anything going in 2-minute. You could tell Jimbo was getting mad. He was trying not to say anything, but LaRon was getting under his skin. We were struggling a little bit.

“It gets down to one of the last plays. We’re on the defense’s 40 (yard line). We’ve only got 1 play left. Of course, we’ve got JaMarcus Russell at the time. One play left. JaMarcus rolls right and there’s a receiver wide open on the left. JaMarcus does a fantastic job. Probably only he can make that throw — across his body, on a line to the end zone. We score. Jimbo looks at LaRon and says, ‘Hey LaRon, suck on that one!’ and just walks off the field. It was classic Jimbo. He let LaRon have his day. He didn’t say anything. Once we scored in 2-minute, Jimbo got the final word.”

Classic Jimbo, indeed.
