Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase added to their trophy cases with awards from the NFL for their contributions in the last year.
Burrow received the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award following his serious knee injury, and Chase received the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday during NFL Honors.
Chase started every game, and made 81 catches for 1,455 yards, a stout average of 18 yards per catch, and 13 touchdowns. No rookie in the Super Bowl era has piled up more receiving yards, and the total was a franchise record, as well, as he broke Chad Johnson’s mark of 1,440. Chase’s 266 yards in a Week 17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs were a single-game rookie record.
Chase, the No. 5 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft won his award just before Burrow, as they received the honors at an off-site location as they continued to prepare for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Burrow underwent successful surgery to repair his knee and surprised some by returning at the start of the season.
The former LSU Tiger roared back finished with 4,611 passing yards and 34 touchdowns with a 70.4 percent completion percentage.
Burrow set a franchise record with 525 passing yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 in a 41-21 win. He also threw 4 touchdowns in the game.
