After dealing with a nagging injury for most of the preseason, many wondered exactly what to expect from Jacksonville Jaguars rookie RB Leonard Fournette against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
However, the former LSU star put any concerns about his health to rest, running for an impressive 100 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. He also added three catches for 24 yards for good measure.
After becoming the first Jaguars rookie running back to rush for 100 yards in his debut, Fournette had nothing but nice things to say, giving credit to his offensive line for opening holes for him all day (via ESPN.com):
“Basically, it was really a mind thing today. I know everyone was talking about how great their defense was, but I believed in my offensive line,” said Fournette. “Each and every day at practice, I tell them we can do it. Just give me a couple of seconds and I’m going to take it. They did a great job for me and an excellent job overall. It was kind of shocking to everybody [outside the organization] that they were blocking so well.”
The Jaguars ended up winning 29-7 at Houston — one of the more surprising results of Week 1.
If Fournette keeps playing as well as he did on Sunday, the Jaguars could end up surprising a lot of teams this season.
