LSU makes betting-line history as major underdog against top-ranked Alabama
Even though LSU is the defending national champion, it’s a huge underdog for its matchup against No. 1 Alabama this week. In fact, the Tigers have made history with the betting line for Saturday’s game.
According to ESPN, Alabama is a 29.5-point favorite for this week’s matchup, making LSU the biggest underdog for a reigning national champion in the past 40 seasons. And it’s not too much of a surprise that that’s the case.
After going 15-0 and winning the national title last season, the Tigers lost many of their top players. That’s led to them starting the 2020 season 4-3 and having yet to win consecutive games this year. Last week, LSU lost to No. 5 Texas A&M, 20-7.
If the Tigers can play another close game against a top team in the Crimson Tide, they could make bettors who take a chance on them quite happy. However, Alabama is a much more formidable opponent, considering it has started 8-0 and won each of its games by at least 17 points.
Last year, LSU beat Alabama, 46-41, ending an eight-game losing streak against the Crimson Tide. The last time the Tigers won consecutive games against the Tide came when they earned victories in back-to-back years in 2010 and 2011, but they have a chance to start a new streak this week.
LSU and Alabama are set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday on CBS.
I’ll be happy if bama wins by 40. LSU ran, but they can’t hide.
Idiot.
Keep it classy.
He’s calling LSU cowards. A few other Bama fans have said the same. I can certainly accept being called a bad team right now, but I won’t accept the coward label. We didn’t make the COVID rules. The conference did that.
What I’m confused about is I believe the rule is you have to have 53 scholarships to play? Is that right? LSU cancelled the game with Bama since it fell below that number. Mississippi St was below that number too but played Georgia anyway. Is that number the rule or just a guideline that you can still play if you want to?
You can get a waiver for that number if you have the minimum number of position group requirements. LSU was in this position because the conference made players go into quarantine even though they already had the virus. That left us short on the OLine.
See the bottom of the thread and try to argue with facts. LSU is back to being LSU and they’re avoiding the obvious.
It just proves you are an idiot.
LSU Admins after game: The last time I saw a beating this bad, I covered it up!
Reminds me of the time Florida canceled on LSU because of a hurricane. Some LSU fans accused them of ducking the game. I thought they were just being cautious because of the hurricane threat and the probability that some of their game security personnel would be needed elsewhere. Some fans will believe what they want to believe.
I don’t get the ducking thing. MSU played because they weren’t decimated at one position. It was spread out per position and depth chart. As a Bama fan I’m glad LSU didn’t risk getting one of our players which may have affected the season. They are playing this weekend so all the ducking noise is moot.
Sec rescheduled this game. Not the kittens.
Nah. My assessment seems pretty spot on considering LSU has ducked their two biggest games this year. Then when Bama is reintroduced to the schedule your best player quits the team. Like I said, you can run but you can’t hide.
You really are an idiot. Florida postponed their game with LSU because of covid cases at Florida.
Definitely an idiot.
