LSU RB Derrius Guice to undergo tests after medical scare

HOOVER, Ala. — LSU freshman running back Derrius Guice should be OK after passing out at the football facility Wednesday night.

Coach Les Miles confirmed that Guice has been released from the hospital. He received treated for dehydration and a low blood sugar reaction, “both of which can be caused by exercise,” NOLA.com reported.

Guice took to Twitter to clarify that he didn’t pass out during or after a workout.

Miles has singled out Guice on more than one occasion as a player who could contribute as a freshman.

Guice was the No. 5 overall running back in the 2015 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Leonard Fournette is LSU’s unquestioned No. 1 running back and should get the majority of the carries. Darrel Williams got some carries as a freshman in 2014 and enters the fall as the backup, but many expected Guice to become part of the rotation.

Getting transported to the hospital in an ambulance and losing consciousness never is good, so we’re glad that Guice is OK.
