LSU's biggest recruiting needs
LSU has been a talent-producing factory since Les Miles came to Baton Rouge, something not likely to change anytime soon. While the Tigers were a young team this season, they’ll still need reinforcements at some key positions. Chief among them: the defensive line.
The Tigers could be losing both defensive end starters. Jermauria Rasco, the team’s sack leader, is graduating, while disruptive defensive end Danielle Hunter is a candidate to leave for the NFL. LSU didn’t have much depth on the defensive line to being with, so both of those players would be a blow.
Last year, LSU brought in three four-star defensive linemen, while several redshirt freshmen defensive linemen didn’t make an impact in 2014. Travonte Valentine and Trey Lealaimatafao both ended up redshirting, while freshman Sione Teuhema only saw limited action. The only freshman to make a real impact was Davon Godchaux, who was pressed into starting duty for stretches.
Current DL commits
- Three-star: Isaiah Washington, 6-4, 240 lbs. (Edna Karr, New Orleans, La.)
Other positions of need
- Defensive back: Jalen Mills is a candidate to leave early for the NFL, while it appears cornerback Rashard Robinson’s time with the team could be done in the wake of an indefinite suspension.
- Quarterback: No one knows if Anthony Jennings or Brandon Harris is the permanent answer at quarterback. LSU had success in Cam Cameron’s first year at offensive coordinator with Zach Mettenberger, a junior college transfer. Could that be the answer for the Tigers?
