Sean Payton open to the idea of New Orleans Saints playing at Tiger Stadium
If coach Sean Payton has a say, the New Orleans Saints would absolutely be exciting if it came to fruition.
The Saints are looking at alternative venues if fans are not allowed for its home games. At this point, New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell has declined the Saints an opportunity to open up Mercedes-Benz Superdome to a limited-capacity crowd.
“I don’t think there would be many challenges,” Payton said. “Playing on grass, outside and in a great environment. … That would be exciting.”
New Orleans official Greg Bensel earlier this week said the Saints’ game operations staff is meeting with LSU officials to discuss potentially hosting future Saints home games at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. “LSU has been gracious and enthusiastic regarding hosting our future games and we very much appreciate their partnership.”
Payton on a conference call with local media, asked about the potential of playing at Tiger Stadium:
“I don’t think there would be many challenges. Playing on grass, outside and in a great environment,”

Asked about it again, he said “That would be exciting”
Added if they can’t have fans at the Dome, they would prefer to play at Tiger Stadium so they can have fans at the game ⚜️

Saints coach Sean Payton said if the choice was playing in the Superdome with no fans or playing in Tiger Stadium with “25,000 of our fans” they’d pick Tiger Stadium for sure and wouldn’t consider it a challenge to play out of town, just up the road.
