Taylor Swift donates $1 million to help Louisiana flooding victims
Flooding in Louisiana has killed 11 people and forced many others out of their homes.
On Monday, music star Taylor Swift contributed $1 million to flood relief efforts.
Swift said fond memories of playing at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge (the first U.S. stop on her “1989 World Tour”) spurred her to help out the victims of recent historic flooding:
“We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking,” the 26-year-old said in a statement.
Swift continued by asking everyone to keep those affected by the flooding in their thoughts:
“I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time,” Swift said.
More than 40,000 homes have been damaged by the flooding so far and more than 60,000 people have registered for disaster aid.
