Tyrann Mathieu recently took some time to run down the top 5 LSU athletes of all time, and with each selection, he offered an explanation.

Mathieu started at the top with one of his mentors, Patrick Peterson, as the Honey Badger noted, “I had a chance to kind of be under his wing, and see what kind of person he is, what kind of man he is.”

His second choice is Shaquille O’Neal because he was “really, really dominant,” and it was a blessing for LSU to get that kind of talent in basketball.

Dylan Crews checked in at No. 3, Mathieu said, after the star baseball player declined the MLB Draft last year, and enjoyed national championship success this season.

Interestingly, Mathieu put Joe Burrow at No. 4 even though he could be No. 1, Mathieu said.

“What he did at LSU was just speechless, at times,” he said. “I think he threw like 7, 8 touchdowns in one game, so it’s like, not many people are able to do that.”

At No. 5, Mathieu selected Chad Jones, which he admitted could be a “shocker” to some, but the baseball and football athlete won a championship in each sport, and that meant he’s in the top 5.

“And he was one of the best athletes I’ve seen in person,” Mathieu said.
