When the second College Football Playoff rankings of the 2018 season came out on Tuesday, many were surprised to see a two-loss LSU team at No. 7 — ahead of one-loss teams like Washington State, West Virginia and Ohio State.

On Wednesday, Stadium reporter Brett McMurphy weighed in on the rankings, saying he thinks the Tigers are definitely overrated.

As you can see in the video below, he takes issue with the Tigers being ranked ahead of No. 9 West Virginia, who he argues has a similar resume to No. 6 Oklahoma:

“They have Oklahoma at No. 6 with a win over a top-25 team in Iowa State, but OU has not beaten anybody else,” he said. “So when you look at their resumes, I would put Oklahoma and West Virginia very similar to each other. The fact that LSU is between those two surprised me.”

LSU has a good chance to win out, with games against Arkansas, Rice and Texas A&M remaining. Being at No. 7 means they are theoretically still within striking distance of the top four if chaos reigns at the top of the standings.
