The LSU Tigers caught a break early in Sunday night’s matchup against Miami in Dallas, as Miami lost a starting defender to a targeting ejection.
Sophomore DB Trajan Bandy earned himself a quick exit from the game when he delivered a helmet-first hit on LSU WR Dee Anderson.
As you can see below, Bandy has his head up and his facemask makes contact with Anderson’s helmet:

Still, the rule says a defensive player can’t lead with his helmet, so Bandy was definitely guilty of that.
However, it was interesting that the play wasn’t reviewed until LSU called a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. That’s when referees huddled and ruled that Bandy was ejected.
