Charles Brantley is heading back to his home state, as the junior defensive back has committed to Miami after transferring from Michigan State, according to On3.

The Sarasota, Florida, native continues a busy Saturday in the portal for the Hurricanes. Brantley was the 4th player to commit to Miami on Saturday, joining defensive lineman David Blay, kicker Carter Davis and long snapper Adam Booker.

Brantley was listed as the No. 9 cornerback in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. He should help solidify a Miami secondary that was a weak spot this fall and 1 of the big reasons the Hurricanes fell just short of making the College Football Playoff.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Brantley spent 4 seasons at Michigan State, starting 24 games. This fall, in what turned out to be his final season in East Lansing, Brantley had 27 tackles, 19 of them solo, 7 pass deflections and 3 interceptions.

Brantley joins a Hurricanes secondary that will also include rising 3rd-year talent Damari Brown and breakout 2nd-year cornerback OJ Frederique Jr. He is the 2nd defensive-back transfer Miami has added during this portal window, joining safety Zechariah Poyser.

Brantley will hope to get Miami over the top in 2025 after a crushing end to the 2024 regular season that saw the Hurricanes’ defense collapse in helping blow a 21-0 lead in a loss at Syracuse that likely cost them a Playoff spot.
