Greg McElroy is excited about what Miami could accomplish in 2025.

McElroy took some time to discuss the Canes on the latest episode of Always College Football this week. He pointed specifically toward Miami’s roster-building philosophy — mostly ‘home-grown’ talents with a few transfers mixed in — as the reason for his optimism.

“I liked Miami last year, I like Miami again this year,” McElroy said. “I like the program. And I think now they’re not going to be as heavily-reliant on annual transfer portal additions. It feels like this is a group that the foundation has been built via high school recruiting and they can kind of pick and choose [transfers].

“You also look at what they have coming back around Carson Beck. You look at the offensive line, you’ve got a bunch of guys back from the No. 1 scoring offense in college football.”

Miami’s 2025 transfer class is headlined by former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, but as McElroy said, the bulk of the Canes’ roster has been built via high school recruiting and development. Miami has signed high school recruiting classes that rank in the top-15 nationally in each of the past 3 cycles. Mario Cristobal and his staff also inked the No. 5 transfer class in the country for 2025, per 247Sports.

“I’m super optimistic with the balance that they have between homegrown development and going out and picking and choosing the portal pieces that they want to highlight,” McElroy added.

Per BetMGM, Miami’s regular-season win total has been set at 8.5 for the 2025 season. The Canes are also +3000 to win the national title, per BetMGM. Miami’s 2025 schedule includes Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Louisville and SMU, amongst other top competition.
