Mario Cristobal had Miami in a perfect position entering Week 14. Simply beat Syracuse, and the Hurricanes would play for the ACC Championship and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.

Now, the Hurricanes no longer hold their own destiny, and it’s fair to wonder if Miami will miss the Playoff entirely after Saturday’s stunning result.

In the regular season finale, Miami built a 21-0 lead over the Orange, but that lead would not withstand Syracuse’s comeback. Kyle McCord would lead the team on a comeback with 21 straight points with Syracuse outscoring Miami 28-17 in the second half.

It led to a staggering 42-38 win for Syracuse as the Orange upset the Hurricanes to keep Cristobal’s team out of the ACC title game. Instead, Clemson will face SMU with the winner lined up to earn an automatic ticket to the Playoff.

So, where does that leave Miami? That’s up for the CFP committee to decide, but the outlook for the Hurricanes is now shaky at best.

While Miami does have 10 wins, none of those victories came against ranked opponents. An even bigger issue, Cristobal has lost 2 of the last 3 games with both losses coming to unranked teams in Georgia Tech and Syracuse.

To no surprise, social media took its shots at Cristobal in the aftermath. Take a look:
