Miami has hauled in one of the top tight ends in the transfer portal.
Alex Bauman, who spent 3 years at Tulane and developed into a key red zone threat for the Green Wave, has committed to Miami. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Bauman, a New Jersey native, played in all but 2 games as a true freshman in 2022, making 8 catches for 112 yards. His first career touchdown came in the Cotton Bowl against USC, part of a 3-catch, 46-yard performance. In 2023, he played in all 14 games, finding the end zone 5 times while totaling 35 catches for 286 yards. His 5 scoring grabs were tied for second-most on the team.
In 2024, Bauman played in all but one game, posting 7 TD catches, a team-high.
Bauman joins a Hurricanes team that has made steady progress under Mario Cristobal, who won 5 and 7 games in his first 2 seasons — respectively — before a 10-3 campaign in 2024.
The Canes, though, lost 3 of their last 4, including a Nov. 9 defeat at Georgia Tech and a Nov. 30 loss at Syracuse that spelled the end of their College Football Playoff hopes. They then fell to Iowa State in a wild Pop-Tarts Bowl.
