Juwan Howard got himself in hot water at the end of the Michigan men’s basketball game against Wisconsin on Sunday. Now the Michigan athletics director and the Big Ten Conference have each weighed in about the situation.

Howard hit Wisconsin assistant Joe Krabbenhoft after Howard argued with Wisconsin coach Greg Gard during the handshake line following the Badgers’ 77-63 victory. The Big Ten said it planned to “take swift and appropriate disciplinary action when it completes its review.”

Warde Manuel, Michigan’s AD, also issued a statement, and said he apologized to the leaders at Wisconsin.

“I am aware of and watched the end of our men’s basketball game. There is no excuse for any of our staff or student-athletes to get into a physical altercation with others regardless of instigating factors. I reached out and apologized to Chris McIntosh and President Coleman has reached out to UW Chancellor Blank to apologize for the totally unacceptable behavior. We will review the situation more thoroughly and work with the Big Ten…”
