Every offseason there are at least a few college coaches that are rumored to be making the jump to the NFL — Jim Harbaugh, Dan Mullen, Matt Campbell, Nick Saban and now, even Urban Meyer is starting to generate some buzz — but we’ve never seen Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck’s name rumored to be among the coaches considering a jump to the professional league.

If you were unaware, Fleck actually played and coached in the NFL, he spent two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and coached one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before landing the head coaching position at Western Michigan.

Now, after leading Minnesota to a 26-19 overall record in four seasons, Fleck is reportedly receiving some interest from at least one NFL team according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

“A handful of college coaches are drawing interest for NFL head coaching jobs, and here’s an interesting one: Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck. I’m told at least one team wants to interview Fleck, 40, who’s one of the only current FBS head coaches to both play and coach in the NFL,” Pelissero reported on Wednesday.

It’s interesting that Pelissero mentions a “handful of college coaches” receiving interest from the NFL but only names Fleck. That could be a sign that he’s a serious target to make the jump to the NFL.

Nothing would surprise us during the wild coaching carousel season that’s still upon us.
