Coming off one of the biggest wins, if not the biggest in school history, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen met with the media Monday afternoon for his weekly press conference.

  • Mullen spoke about how proud he was not just of his team, but of the school and the state. Despite the big win and lofty No. 3 ranking, Mullen is not satisfied. He said the Bulldogs’ top-five ranking is “pretty cool,” but it’s not the team’s goal. They set out to win the SEC West, and so far they’ve only won two SEC games.
  • Mullen knows that life in the SEC West is rough. “If you win a big game in this league, the gift is you get a bigger game the next week. That’s all you get,” he said. He added that if they beat Auburn, the next game just becomes even bigger.
  • The Bulldogs will face their third consecutive top-10 team when they meet Auburn on Saturday. The high ranking is the only thing those teams have in common, Mullen said. LSU was a ground-and-pound outfit, Texas A&M likes to air it out, and Auburn is a balanced offense. He said there is not much carry over in preparation for those teams. He compared the Bulldogs’ offense to Auburn’s, saying they like to do similar things. He also said that Auburn’s defense will be the best the Bulldogs havee faced so far.
  • Mullen said that when recruiting Dak Prescott, he saw “a winner.” He said that Prescott got to this point by being himself, and they want him to keep doing just that going forward. Mullen said he tells his quarterback not to take himself too seriously. Mullen previously coached Tim Tebow and Alex Smith, and said he doesn’t remember their Heisman hype starting as early as Precott’s.
  • Jameon Lewis’ injury, which caused him to miss Saturday’s game, was classified as a “rest injury.” There is a good chance he will play against Auburn on Saturday.
