Dan Mullen will no longer be calling the SEC rivalry matchup between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, as was reported by Ole Miss beat reporter Brad Logan. Mullen had noted on “The Stingray Show” earlier this month that he would be on the call with Matt Barrie.

Mullen was previously the head coach for the Bulldogs in one of their best eras in history as a football team. He was 5-4 in Egg Bowl games with the Dawgs, clearly coming out on the right side of history as far as that is concerned. After 9 years in Starkville, Mullen took the head coaching job at Florida. Mullen spent 4 seasons with the Gators before he became a studio analyst for ABC and ESPN in 2022.

The Egg Bowl rivalry has continued to go back and forth, though late head coach Mike Leach ultimately snagged the trophy the last time the two teams met. It was the last game he coached before his tragic and unexpected death.

The Bulldogs won the contest in 2022 by a score of 24-22. The Rebels will make their way to Starkville for the 2023 Egg Bowl on Nov. 23.
