One of Joe Moorhead’s first big recruiting victories as head coach of Mississippi State was getting Jalen Mayden to stick with his pledge to Hail State. Mayden had committed to the school under previous coach Dan Mullen and despite renewed interest from other programs after Mullen left for Florida, the Texas native decided to fulfill his pledge to MSU.

During a recent appearance with Bo Bounds on his popular radio show Out of Bounds on ESPN 105.9 FM out of Jackson, Miss., ESPN college football analyst Tom Luginbill was asked to share his thoughts on Mayden.

Luginbill didn’t hide his feelings that Mayden needs to improve on his passing ability if he hopes to make an impact at the collegiate level. Thankfully for Mississippi State, the team brings back arguably the best QB in the conference in Nick Fitzgerald and an emerging talent in rising sophomore Keytaon Thompson. Given the depth at the position on the roster, Mayden should have plenty of time to craft his game before he sees the field for any meaningful snaps.
