Mississippi State was dealt a blowout loss in its SEC opener on Saturday. Zach Arnett went to the podium after the disappointing loss.

The Bulldogs lost 41-14 to the Tigers in Starkville. Mississippi State faces another SEC opponent in Week 4 in a road game with South Carolina.

Here’s everything that was said by Arnett after the game:

On his team’s performance

“That was as bad as a defeat as you can have, right? Credit to Brian Kelly’s staff and their players. They came out ready to play. They played faster right from the jump. They dominated that football game, so. I’ve done a very poor job of my evaluation of where we’re at as a football team. We have to decide how we want to respond to this. You’ve got two ways you can respond to a like this.  We’re either gonna do the hard things and get better, or we’re not and losing like this becomes commonplace.”

On poor play from Will Rogers

“He missed some throws that he needs to be able to complete if they’re there,” said Arnett. “He was not getting a whole lot of help in protection, so we didn’t hold up to their pass rush early on.”

On the first half struggles for the offense

“Very poor execution by us and very good execution by them. Opening play of the game we throw a little quick gain and it goes for a first down, then the next play we have a shot play dialed up with max protection and you get a pass rush through there that should’ve never happened. We were 3-13 on third down and 2-3 on fourth down, so really 5-of-16. If you can’t keep drives going you’re gonna convert third downs and score many points.”
