Former Mississippi State star DJ Stewart Jr. didn’t hear his name called during the 2021 NBA Draft.

But, he signed on with the Miami Heat to participate in the NBA Summer League. He played well in 6 games (3 starts), and impressed his new coaches.

On Tuesday, the Heat announced that they’d signed Stewart to a contract ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season:

Stewart will potentially be on a 2-way contract, but that hasn’t been announced by the team yet. A 2-way contract would allow Stewart to play with both the Heat and the Heat’s G League affiliate.

In 2 seasons at Mississippi State, Stewart averaged 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds. 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He appeared in 64 games, making 50 starts.
