Hail yeah: Mississippi State holds on to top commits, land pair of big signatures on National Signing Day
Mississippi State fans can finally stop sweating over these two top recruits.
The two biggest commitments Hail State had entering National Signing Day are sticking to their plans and will play in Starkville in 2019 as both in-state defensive lineman Nathan Pickering and junior college receiver Javonta Payton have signed with Mississippi State.
Pickering, a top 100 prospect nationally, hails from Seminary, Miss., and selected Mississippi State over the likes of Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Florida. 247Sports Composite Rankings list him as the No. 6 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 73 overall recruit in the nation for the 2019 recruiting cycle. Pickering was honored as an Under Armour All-American and Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game participant following the conclusion of his high school career.
Payton hails from Nashville, Tenn., but is signing out of Northwest Mississippi Community College. He signed with Ole Miss coming out of high school as a four-star prospect and Mississippi State had to hold off the Rebels and Tennessee to land his signature. 247Sports Composite Rankings list him as the No. 3 junior college receiver in the nation.
The school announced each signing on Wednesday morning.
