Kylin Hill may very well be the best returning running back in the Southeastern Conference this season.

However — after turning down an opportunity to leave school early for the 2020 NFL Draft — if Mississippi doesn’t change its state flag, it appears Hill won’t be returning to Starkville for the 2020 season, after all.

Hill led the SEC in rushing last season with 1,350 total rushing yards and enters the 2020 season with 2,477 career rushing yards at Mississippi State.

If you missed it late last week, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey issued a strong statement calling for Mississippi to change its state flag — which features the Confederate logo in the top left section of the flag.

Here is Sankey’s statement:

“It is past time for change to be made for the flag for the state of Mississippi. Our students deserve an opportunity to learn and compete in environments that are inclusive and welcoming to all.”

“In the event there is no change, there will be consideration to precluding Southeastern Conference championship events from being conducted in the State of Mississippi until the state flag is changed.”

Following this statement from the league commissioner, the SEC, the NCAA and C-USA have all said they will not permit championship events from being held in the state of Mississippi until the flag is changed.

Those actions have not yet resulted in action from the state’s leadership, but maybe Hill’s demand will be enough to finally spark some change in the state.

Here’s what Hill had to say on the issue Monday:
