Mississippi State beats Washington 1-0 in College World Series, thanks to game-winning 2B in bottom of 9th
The Mississippi State Bulldogs start off 1-0 in the College World Series.
MSU defeated Washington in the first round 1-0 after Luke Alexander hit the game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth.
The Bulldogs and Huskies were scoreless heading into the ninth, the first time since 1985 there was a scoreless game through eight innings. After back-to-back singles in the ninth (and after a failed sac bunt attempt), Alexander hit his double over the right fielder’s head with an 0-2 count. The outfield was playing in with the winning run at second, which helped Alexander. Nonetheless, he smoked it.
Here’s Alexander’s game-winning hit:
How do they keep doing this?! 😳

Alexander is now 11-of-28 in his last seven games. We call that seeing it well.
MSU’s huge turnaround is still going strong, and this team just gets mentally strong in late innings. The Bulldogs will now face North Carolina Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
