Mississippi State knew it was heading to a bowl for the sixth consecutive year.
The Bulldogs learned its opponent and destination Sunday afternoon.
Mississippi State (8-4) will play N.C. State (7-5) in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., a source told ESPN, which will televise the game. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., ET, Dec. 30.
N.C. State is led by former Florida quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who transferred after his sophomore season and has started for the Wolfpack the past two seasons.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 in bowl games under Dan Mullen, including last season’s 49-34 loss to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
All four of the Bulldogs’ losses this season were to ranked opponents.
QB Dak Prescott, who has thrown for 3,413 yards, needs a 300-yard game to move into the top 10 on the SEC’s single-season list.
Prescott already holds the Bulldogs’ single-season record for passing yards, which he set last year with 3,449, and is adding to his career record (8,996).
He needs two TD passes to tie his single-season record of 27, also set last season.
Mississippi State and NC State have played against each twice in a bowl game. MSU won 63 Liberty Bowl and Wolfpack won 95 Peach Bowl.
