Mike Leach’s defense and special teams units at Mississippi State will lose some depth following the announcement that a defensive back will opt out of the 2020 season.
Taury Dixon announced on Twitter that he would opt out of the season and transfer after graduation in December. Dixon has played in 15 games, mostly on special teams.
After junior cornerback Tyler Williams opted out, Leach said, “If they’re there, I coach them. So, that’s kind of where we’re at. It’s kind of a moving target. And they mess with legislation as we speak, so I’m in the ‘if you’re there, I’m going to coach you mode.’”
Dixon, a Madison, Mississippi native, came to State from East Mississippi Community College where he played in nine games as a true freshman at the junior college powerhouse.
Last season, he appeared in five games and made one tackle against Louisiana.
After prayer and careful consideration, I have decided to opt out of the Fall 2020 season and Grad transfer in December. I am thankful for all Mississippi State has done for me. #HailState pic.twitter.com/o7JtIUfBYe
