Mississippi State provides update on Nick Weatherspoon's injury status
After trailing by 12 at halftime, the Mississippi State Bulldogs made a big comeback in the second half against Alabama on Tuesday night.
However, they came up short, losing the tough road game by four points. If they had talented sophomore G Nick Weatherspoon for more than 14 minutes, things might have been different.
He went down with a scary-looking leg injury during a first-half dunk attempt and didn’t return to the game. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, though, the MRI came back with good news, according to Jon Rothstein:
The MRI for Mississippi State's Nick Weatherspoon revealed no tear or structural damage in his knee, per a school spokesman. Still in the evaluation process. Was injured Tuesday night against Alabama.

Weatherspoon, a sophomore, is averaging 10.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
How soon he’ll be able to return to the court remains to be seen, but this news is obviously good for the Bulldogs.
The play he was injured on was pathetic. Bama player leaned in and bumped his knee as he was leaping in for a lay-up. Not much contact, but enough to knock him off balance and cause an awkward landing. Then the official swallowed his whistle and didn’t even call a foul. We hear about the emphasis on player safety and the push to call flagrant fouls for inadvertent elbows and such, but yet can’t even get a common foul call on a dangerous play that ended up taking a kid out of the game. The home court officiating advantage is terrible in the SEC this year.
