After four years at Mississippi State, James Jackson has settled on a new program.

The departing lineman announced Wednesday on his Twitter account that he has committed to play at South Alabama.

A member of the 2017 recruiting class, Jackson was a 3-star defensive tackle coming out of Pascagoula. He signed with Mississippi State over offers from Arkansas State, Louisville, Southern Miss and UTSA.

Jackson redshirted his first season on campus. Over the past three seasons (2018-20), he has played in 23 games. As a defensive lineman, Jackson appeared in 12 games during the 2018 and ’19 seasons, recording 7 total tackles. This past season, he made the switch to the offensive line. Jackson started at center against Kentucky and Texas A&M.

It appears Jackson will be staying on offense. His South Alabama commitment graphic lists him as an offensive lineman.
