Even though Mississippi State fans won’t gather inside Davis Wade Stadium this week, you can bet your bottom dollar the cowbells will be out in support of the Bulldogs’ trip to LSU.

In its latest hype video to kick off the season, Mississippi State discusses how “football brings us together, the foundation of a different kind of family, the Bulldog family” comes back together this week, although it is a bit different this season.

“Football is in our blood, our tradition, our community,” the narrator continued. “Gamedays here take over the town. Memories made in this house last lifetimes.”

The big change for the Maroon and White this season is coach Mike Leach, who earlier this week named K.J. Costello his starter this week in Baton Rouge. It’s a welcome change MSU fans have clamored for in recent years.

Leach’s teams have led the nation in passing in 10 of his 18 seasons as a head coach at Texas Tech and Washington State. Mississippi State averaged 179.5 yards passing per game last season to rank 12th out of 14 SEC teams.

“I expect K.J. to start, Will’s doing a great job, but I expect K.J. to start,” Leach said, in an announcement that has trended that direction in recent days.

Injuries limited Costello to five games in 2019, and he went 102 of 167 for 1,038 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
