The Egg Bowl continues to be one of the most thrilling rivalries in college football. In this season’s edition, Mississippi State edged Ole Miss 24-22 thanks to the Rebels failing to convert a late 2-point pass.

The SEC Network’s Peter Burns and Chris Doering recapped the Thanksgiving clash on “SEC This Morning” and were in awe at the level of competition.

Burns believes the Egg Bowl is the epitome of the sport.

“Honestly it lived up to its hype…It gave you great drama…” Burns said. “It’s raining. You’ve got Lane Kiffin. You’ve got Mike Leach. You’ve got celebrations. You’ve got a 2-point conversion. Pump this into my veins of what college football really is.”

Meanwhile, Doering cited the weather as a major factor in the outcome and explained the turning point of the game.

“I thought Louis Riddick made a great point. When the rain started coming down heavier and heavier, he mentioned ‘Does this come back with a ball handling mistake?’ And it almost was exactly that,” Doering said. “…I thought the touchdown right before halftime that cut it to a 2-point lead for Ole Miss was maybe the biggest momentum play of the day.”

Both teams will await their bowl destinations after finishing the regular with 8-4 overall records and 4-4 marks in conference play.
