With the early signing period just around the corner, it looks like Joe Moorhead will have to replace one of his elite recruiters.

FootballScoop is reporting that Bulldogs tight ends coach Mark Hudspeth is leaving to take the Austin Peay head coaching job. The Austin Peay job came open when Will Healy left to become the head coach at Charlotte.

Hudspeth has been a head coach twice before. He went 66-21, including five 10-win seasons and five trips to the Division II quarterfinals or semifinals during his tenure at North Alabama (2002-08). Most recently, he was the head coach of Louisiana-Lafayette from 2011-17, going 29-38, but reaching the New Orleans Bowl five times.

The departure of Hudspeth would almost certainly have an impact on the recruiting trail. He is currently ranked the No. 7 recruiter nationally by 247Sports for the 2019 recruiting cycle. Hudspeth landed six commitments for MSU’s upcoming class.
