Mike Leach’s Mississippi State staff is expected to be just like his Washington State on one side of the ball. FootballScoop is reporting that Leach is bringing his offensive staff and special teams coordinator to Starkville.

Offensive position coaches Eric Mele (running backs), Mason Miller (offensive line), Dave Nichol (inside receivers) and Steve Spurrier Jr. (outside receivers) are coming to Mississippi State, according to the report. All four have at least two seasons of experience coaching alongside Leach.

As for the defensive side of the ball, the FootballScoop update says, “Leach is currently in the process of considering a healthy number of candidates to lead his defensive staff.” On the Washington State website, Brock is also listed as outside linebackers coach.

With Leach bringing in an offensive staff familiar with coaching players to run his Air Raid system, one would expect the defensive staff will feature coaches with ties to coaching in the SEC and familiarity recruiting in and around the conference footprint. Spurrier previously coached under his father at Florida and South Carolina.

Two other former Washington State staffers, Dave Emerick and Tyson Brown, have already arrived in Starkville.
