When coach Mike Leach arrived at Mississippi State, there was a question about Kylin Hill’s role in the new Air Raid offense. Consider that question answered after Saturday’s game at LSU.

Late in the third quarter, Hill caught a 75-pass from K.J. Costello as he had to leap to grab it, then race down the sideline for the one-play scoring drive. He side-stepped a would-be tackle from LSU for the score. It gave him five catches for 109 yards for the Bulldogs, and more importantly, a 27-24 lead.

This is the kind of play to help bolster Hill’s NFL resume in the pass-oriented offense. Hill is following up a season he rushed for 1,350 yards and 10 touchdowns. How he’ll be used in a pass-oriented offense remains to be seen, but Leach has liked what he’s seen of him running and catching the ball. And add that play to his highlight reel only makes the Pirate’s job calling plays easier.

Hill initially declared for the NFL draft but changed his mind, and was among the Mississippi State players who greeted Leach at the airport when he arrived in the state.
