Video: Mississippi State falls asleep, upset late by South Alabama
Tennessee was supposed to pummel Appalachian State on Thursday. The Vols were fortunate to escape.
David wasn’t done with Goliath, though. The SEC was dealt a shocking upset loss Saturday when South Alabama dug out of a 17-0 deficit to come back and defeat Mississippi State at Davis Wade Stadium.
It was one of the big questions of the offseason in the conference: How do the Bulldogs replace Dak Prescott, who was nothing short of sensational. Nick Fitzgerald got the start for coach Dan Mullen, but he lasted only two series and was replaced by Damian Williams. Neither is Prescott, obviously, though Williams did give the Bulldogs a chance for a last-second victory.
Picked to finish last in the West at Media Days back in July, MSU fans still believed this program could be bowl eligible. However, losing to a Sun Belt cupcake is no way to begin the 2016 campaign.
