Missouri took care of business in a memorable 38-21 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Quarterback Brady Cook was dominant, throwing for 4 touchdowns — including 2 in the 4th quarter — against the Commodores. Luther Burden also had another big day, going for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.

It wasn’t a perfect day for Missouri’s defense, but the Tigers did enough to move to 5-0 on the season.

Here are 3 takeaways from the win:

The streak lives on

Cook set an SEC record in this game with his 326th consecutive pass attempt without an interception. He broke a record that was previously held by Kentucky’s Andre Woodson. He hasn’t thrown an interception since last October when Mizzou faced Vanderbilt.

Cook then built on that record throughout the rest of the game. He finished the game 33-of-41 for 395 yards and 4 touchdowns. He ended the game with 348 consecutive pass attempts without an INT. Cook also delivered the dagger to Vanderbilt’s comeback hopes in the 4th quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Burden.

Pass defense concerns

Mizzou entered this game in the bottom half of the SEC in pass defense efficiency, and the Tigers didn’t show any improvement on Saturday vs. the Commodores.

Missouris’ pass defense was not nearly good enough, especially considering Vanderbilt was forced to start backup quarterback Ken Seals in this game. Seals had a strong day, throwing for 259 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception on 31 attempts.

As a team, Vanderbilt averaged 7.8 yards per play in the 2nd half with much of that production coming in the passing game.

5-0 start

Missouri is now 5-0 this season with multiple Power-5 wins already on its résumé. The Tigers were already ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll this week, but will likely move up after earning a road conference victory.

This is Mizzou’s first 5-0 start since the 2013 season, which was the program’s second campaign in the SEC. That year, Missouri finished 12-2 and won the SEC East.

Missouri will hosts LSU in what is likely to be a top-25 showdown next week as the Tigers look to clinch bowl eligibility.
