No matter how many times we are reminded, this seems like a fantasy. Alas, this is really happening, Derek Dooley is back in the SEC.

Of course, Missouri’s new offensive coordinator is known in this part of the country far more for his quips than his coaching ability. While it remains to be seen if he’s progressed as a college coach, that may be tough to truly judge in 2018 seeing as how Dooley has never been an offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach or called plays — yet that’s the role Barry Odom has given him, his one-liners are still performing well for audiences.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Ben Frederickson was at Mizzou’s St. Louis recruiting caravan stop and shared the highlight of Dooley’s appearance at the event. Apparently, the program’s new offensive coordinator won the room by poking fun at Kansas.

Dooley is acing his new role thus far, Missouri landed a commitment from IMG receiver Shamar Nash on Thursday (If Nash signs with Mizzou, he’d be the highest rated prospect to sign with the program under Odom), but the true test of his aptitude will come this fall. Will he pass the test that really matters, or will he save his best performances for the press like he did in Knoxville?
