Eli Drinkwitz explains how Dan Mullen builds his offense to get appealing matchups
After Missouri has had a game postponed because of COVID-19 issues with Vanderbilt, coach Eli Drinkwitz was asked if he’s concerned about traveling to Florida this week.
“I trust our conference, our commissioner, medical officials… we all are reporting individually … I trust Coach Mullen is doing the best that he can, just as we are,” Drinkwitz said on the SEC coaches media teleconference.
The challenge for the Tigers this week is slowing down the Gators offense with the combination of QB Kyle Trask and TE Kyle Pitts. It’s simply how Dan Mullen diagrams his offense.
“Coach Mullen is always QB driven… builds around the QB,” Drinkwitz said. “He can run, has weapons, done a nice job establishing the run game… he also does a nice job getting one-on-one matchups on the outside… and with the tight end… I think that’s why you see so many commentaries on Mullen jumping to the NFL… he’s obviously good at what he does.”
Drinkwitz also offered an update on LB Cameron Wilkins.
“He’s definitely with the program, suffered an injury against LSU, so he’s not on the depth chart this week, just recovering,” the coach said.
The Tigers and Gators will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network Alternate channel on Saturday.
