Eli Drinkwitz provides outlook for Brady Cook, QB battle at Mizzou

Eli Drinkwitz started Brady Cook at quarterback for all 13 games for Missouri a season ago. While that makes it overwhelmingly likely that Cook remains the starter in 2023, Drinkwitz is not ruling out a change ahead of the start of the season.
Appearing at SEC Media Days in Nashville, Drinkwitz confirmed that Cook will open fall camp as the No. 1 QB for the Tigers but also classified the situation as an open competition. He also claimed the Tigers will be open to playing multiple QBs to begin the season.
Drinkwitz was also open about the fact he called the QB competition really early during fall camp a season ago. It sounds like he intends to take a different philosophy this time around.
Eli notes that he “pulled the trigger” on the QB competition really early in camp last year, indicates he won’t do the same thing this year.

Brady Cook’s performance
During the 2022 season, Cook completed right at 65% of his passes for 2,739 yards and 14 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. While you would like to see those touchdowns go up and the interceptions drop, Cook was also the team’s second-leading rusher with 585 yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.
We’ll see if anyone is able to unseat Cook as the starter by the time the first game of the season rolls around.
