Eli Drinkwitz backed Sam Pittman after Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek released a statement saying that Pittman would be the coach against next season.
Pittman has had a tough year with the Razorbacks, but the program believes in him and is giving him at least another season to get things going. Drinkwitz believes it was the right move by Arkansas.
“I think that was a smart decision,” Drinkwitz said in his press conference Monday. “I think Sam Pittman is a heck of a football coach. I think he’s done an outstanding job at the University of Arkansas from when we first came in this league, we both came in together. The resurgence of that program and the job he’s done recruiting, coaching and developing.”
Drinkwitz recalled a time that he was in a similar position as Pittman, and things have worked out well for him and Missouri.
“I think back to 2 years ago, we were 2-4 and the board of curators believed enough in me to reaffirm their commitment to us and you look at the result now,” Drinkwitz said “I think it sends a positive message to the fans, the recruits and to the coaching staff and players in that building that we’re gonna continue in this direction and it’s the right direction.”
Missouri and Arkansas will face off this weekend in their final games of the season. Missouri is looking to pick up its 10th win while Arkansas is looking for a big upset to end the season on a positive note.
