Eliah Drinkwitz slips up during introductory Missouri press conference: Our goal is to win the Sun Belt
Eliah Drinkwitz is still getting accustomed to being a coach in the Southeastern Conference.
During his first press conference in Columbia, Drinkwitz noted the goal of his program was to win the Sun Belt before quickly correcting himself.
Considering the former Appalachian State coach is fresh off winning the Sun Belt Championship after leading his team to a 12-1 record this is a mistake that’s somewhat to be expected but it’s still funny.
If you listen closely, you’ll hear Missouri AD Jim Sterk shout back at Drinkwitz, “You just did that!” in the clip below.
Interestingly enough, this is the exact line Drinkwitz used this time last year when he was named head coach at Appalachian State.
“Our stated goal is to win the Sun Belt Conference championship and a bowl game with class, integrity and academic excellence,” Drinkwitz said back on Dec. 17, 2018.

I can’t say that I have any opinion on Drinkwitz’s press persona in the clip. How he handles coaching assignments, hires or fires, recruiting, is my question.
Michael, is this pseudo article the best you have to offer? Coach Drinkwitz had an inspiring and motivated presser and all you have to offer is a negative? You are so typical of today’s lazy, jerk journalists. You should be ashamed of yourself. But as my father always quipped, “If it weren’t for the a$$holes, we would never know who the good people are.”.
I wouldn’t call reusing speeches from years past “inspiring and motivated”.
Blake763, I’m picking up that which you are putting down but you haven’t been a MIZZOU Tiger this season either. It doesn’t take much inspirational or motivational words to raise the bar in CoMo lately. :-(
Hey man if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, he can have the exact same speech for all I care. The guy exudes confidence, overall I thought he handled himself real well today.
So if Nick Saban gives the team a championship winning motivational speech he should throw it in the trash and start over next year?
lol
Sterk’s “you just did that” was clever, those who think Sterk is slow are wrong.
It sounds like Eli tossing that victory out there to remind people he’s no joke. And it does have the things you include in a staged exchange. But that’s ok to be that savvy
