Missouri landed a huge addition to its defensive line on Friday night.

Former Texas DT Jordan Elliott announced his intention to transfer to the Tigers. Although Elliott won’t be eligible until 2018, he’s going to be an instant impact-type player when he returns to the field. He played in six games in 2016 for Texas, making eight tackles. He was rated as a 4-star prospect, the nation’s No. 14 DT and the No. 18 overall player in the state of Texas for the class of 2016, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Elliott explained to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Dave Matter why he transferred to Missouri over the likes of South Carolina, Florida and Texas A&M.

“Looking at the statistics and how over the years Missouri has been producing some really good D-linemen, first-round picks every year consecutively, so you know they’re doing good things,” Elliott told Matter. “Also, the SEC is a higher level of play. Why not push myself to compete?”

Elliott is coming off of an MCL tear suffered in 2016, and missing 2017 will actually benefit him and make sure he’s fully healed for 2018. There’s no need to rush him back.

Elliott’s connection with Missouri was probably aided by the Tigers hiring Brick Haley as their defensive line coach, as Haley coached Elliott at Texas in 2016. Elliott told Matter that he reached out to his former coach after he received his release from the Longhorns.

The Houston, Texas, product says he can do it all, and he’s certainly talented enough.

“I can pass rush. I can stop the run,” he said. “I can do it all. I can be an edge rusher. I can be a nose tackle. It really doesn’t matter to me.”

Elliott transferred to Missouri over South Carolina, Texas A&M and Florida, among others.
